January Sales!

Post by mid_gen »

Ok, after seeing chiefeh's laptop in action, I've decided to to purchase a laptop :D

Not cheap obviously, so I am selling my desktop parts. Here goes :

Epox 8KHA+ mobo
AMD Athlon MP 1800+
Zalman Flower Cooler
40gb Maxtor 7200RPM HDD
2x256Mb DDR PC2100 DIMMs
1x256Mb DDR PC2100 ECC DIMM
Sparkle Geforce 4 Ti4400
Hercules Game Theatre XP (with breakout box)
QuietPC.com 300w PSU
Belkin FireWire card

Probably a few other bits n pieces...

Sensible offers please!

PS. If anyone says "it's not january yet", I will kick you in the nuts ;p

Take a peek at the alienware laptops (www.alienware.co.uk)... seem quite nice, though I doubt the battery is up to much.

How much you want for the GF4?

Yeah I've got my eye on one of the Area 51m laptops with a 3.06Ghz P4 (Hyper Threaded). 512Mb DDR, 64MB Radeon 9000.

Bout twice the speed of my current desktop ;)

Not too bothered about battery life, I want a portable PC, rather than a laptop :)

Lookin around at a few prices....£95 for the gfx card. There is a weird bug with it. For some reason it doesn't like the default NT/2K/XP VGA driver, and crashes. Not a big deal, just means you have to plug in any old crappy VGA card when installing windows until you've got the drivers installed.

Well, my desktop is up in Hull at the moment, (one of the main reasons I now want a laptop). If Lazymanc can get into my room and remove parts from my PC, then I spose it could be done. That would leave me with no PC at all until a laptop of some description arrives.

What I'd rather do is just post the parts, I got plenty of jiffy bags etc :) Delivery will be early mid-January, payment at Shotgun probably easiest option.

Epox 8KHA+ mobo £50
AMD Athlon MP 1800+ £35 (it is an MP)
Zalman Flower Cooler £15
40gb Maxtor 7200RPM HDD £40
2x256Mb Crucial DDR PC2100 DIMMs £35 each
1x256Mb Crucial DDR PC2100 ECC DIMM £40
Sparkle Geforce 4 Ti4400 £100
Hercules Game Theatre XP (with breakout box) £80
QuietPC.com 300w silent PSU £30
Belkin FireWire card £20

Hauppage WinTV Nova Digital Satellite TV card (never used) bargain at £20

That's just going from what I paid for the components.

I was until I realised that they can actually play games these days.
That and that fact that it would actually be genuinely useful, seeing as I move my PC the length of the country every month or so. :P If all you want is a machine to sit on your desk and do stuff with then get a desktop. A high-spec laptop (ie. one that plays games) isn't practical for actaully using as a laptop, mainly because a) it will burn your legs, b) the batteries las about 5 seconds ;) I rarely play games on my desktop these days so it doesn't make much sense to have a GF4 system sitting there. I've got Reason for all my storage/backup needs.

a portable PC, yeah, I like ultra-portability though
mmmmmmmmm PowerBook G4
allow me to mention, once again, that it is only 1inch thin, weighs just 5.3 pounds, and still has a 15.2" screen.

hehhe, in all honesty if i want a mobile computer (ie, something i use when im walking about..) i will get a pocket pc... or my next mobile phone which is nearly a pc anyway (SonyEricsson P800)

:)

where as my laptop, is not something i walk around with - so battery life and weight arnt really an issue.

Ok, that makes 4 people wanting to buy the parts now. Y'all have to wait until I get back to university. I might decide to keep the parts after all if Reason hasn't stopped it's random crashing :(

Ok, PSU : done, that's one part I am definitely selling.

I will *definitely* be selling the GF4, PSU, and the 2x256mb non-ECC DIMMs.

ok enough of the rabble... whats left?
i had my eye on that athlon 1800MP but it looks like some one else nabbed it- could i swap it for a standard athlon 1800XP and a fiver as if my plans come to fruition there may be interesting things ahed for a new personal server (unlikely but worth a try- it all hinges on getting a decent job first but i can still afford the processor first if thats ok/possible?)
