bad sectors

Post by uatec »

when win2k does its chkdsk thing on boot, and it reports 196kb in bad sectors... does it mean that these sectors are FUBAR, or just damaged, and have been fixedk or are fixable??

Thanx...

Basically it means Windows has marked 'em as buggered, and not to use them in future. Shouldn't be a problem, but keep an eye on the number of them.
If it gets much worse, start doing regular backups (as you should be anyway). I do them every week, religiously, honest guv.

i only do back ups when i have stuff i need to backup, i dont have any work on it at the moment, as i am having trouble getting my Wifi card to work to connect me to the college network... but hey...

Also, would any of your know any reason why the 3com airconnect 3crwe737a, might not work, in win2k with the correct drivers? are there any common problems that i should know about... I have searched, but found nothing conclusive...

cheers...

The problem is that you're using any form of 3com hardware that requires drivers. They are notoriously shite. Try random driver versions from www.driverguide.com and you might get it working.

Saying that, my 3c905 works perfectly in 2k/xp, but the Win98 driver had a nasty bug for a long time which meant it wouldn't assign the card an IRQ from a warm reboot. You don't even want to hear the hassles I've had with 3Com USB bluetooth and ADSL adapters
