Stupid Question LAN HELP

Post by crossi007 »

I have an XP Pro pc connected to a 4 port CNet switch connected to port 2 and the wireless broadband radio modem connected to LAN port 1.

When I connect a Laptop with a LAN cable to port two it auto applys gateway and DNS using DHCP.

But only the Laptop can do this.

I have the correct LAN settings but cannot receive and activity.

The laptop bootsup and I click IE6 straight away connects to the net.

MY activity light on the motherboard is flashing, the connection on the switch is green and the wireless ethernet modem is on.

BIG HELP NEEDED

Check Firewall settings.
Check it is not trying to dial up and is using LAN.

Right, from the rather tangled wordage of your question, I'm assuming you're trying to get your wireless broadband internet connection to work with a wired connection to your pc, but it's currently only working with a wired connection to your laptop.

On the PC:
1. Make sure your local area connection TCP/IP settings are set to "Obtain Automatically" for both the IP and DNS
2. Open a command prompt and type:

ipconfig/all

then press enter - this should give you the IP settings for all of your current network adapters.

3. To force a refresh from the DHCP server on the modem, type:

ipconfig/release

then

ipconfig/renew

This will aquire a new IP address.

4. Test the connection by attempting to Ping your modem's IP

5. If that doesn't work, reinstall the drivers for the network adapter on the motherboard.
