They have done it again.

Post by uatec »

I feel picked on. Yet again my college have confiscated my computer. They seem to have a thing about taking away my life line. Now I have to survive only on these souless workstations. So much for my PHP scripting, becuase I can actually do my JOB now. Not only did they confiscate it, they made me carry both my laptop and my desktop all the way up to the IT centre. 750m away. They just like tormenting me. How am I supposed to survive without my computers. I work by day with them, I work by night with them. I even sleep with mp3s playing though my head phones, and when it is cold, I even use overclocked desktop to heat up my room. I have only been without a decent computer for about 2 hours, but I am already feeling the strain. I can go for a week without my computer if I choose to. (A while ago I did) But I cannot take it when the just separate me from it, without any chance of seeing either of them again before the beginning half term, and probably not until well after the end. They wouldn't let me change my password for my computers, so they have forced me to compromise security no end. And they expect me to accept this. JEEZ, I am nearly going mad already.

I can see them now, sitting of my poor little laptop, pawing through it's file system, with no resepect for it at all. Just looking straight into the only personal space that I have left in this world. They force everything else to be public property. And now they have taken away my little bit of sancitity, that I reserved for my self. Is nothing sacred? The only hobby I have is PHP, and general programming. What am I going to do without my computers. I might even have to get fit. I dread the gym, all the awful music (S club juniors). And all the people who go there simply to impress the girls, and the fact that most of the girls have the same mentality aswell and go and watch. Argh... however can I live...

uatec, didn't you say before that one of the reason's they kept on taking it was summit todo with you using linux and them not being able to see what you have done.

well if they're taking it without telling you why then dont you think somethings a little odd? maybe they're abusing their powers a little?

i suggest if you think your case is kosha then you go to them, ask them to supply you a written statement on why they have your kit, then ask them to back up they're reason with evidence, otherwise i wouldnt let them near YOUR kit.

Why do they have the right to confiscate your own personal computer equipment? If you signed away your rights to privacy then you're an idiot for putting yourself in a situation where they can take your laptop. If they really are picking on you then lodge a formal complaint with the school. I'm sure daddy can get his solicitor to look into the matter for you.

I guess when you pay so much for an education you have to expect people to take their jobs too seriously :P

I signed my rights away too,
We have no choice,
sign or get the hell of our network is their policy
I need my college drive and internet access

Most work places make you sign away your (EDIT : RIGHTS NOT WRITES! - The Mystery Spelling Checker) with some type of AUP

At most work places, you aren't using your own personal hardware... You're using their equipment for their benefit. This is an entirely different scenario. By this analogy, they can take your car away from you because most places issue company cars...

Because he hide our Gb's of porn in more secure places, don't load our computers with questionable programs, don't have a record of doing dodgy stuff and don't irratate the ITS staff much.
There are about 100 pupils with their own pcs in school and they only take the pc because they have reason to believe that they might find something, or failing that they are out of jobs and need something to pass the time.

well you could refuse and risk being thrown out.

although i can relate to you, parents are always going on at me about my computer, and its annoying, ATM my computer is downstairs in the dining room, personally although i miss pr0n, its more annoying to them than to me, having my heavy mofo screen on the table, and i always make sure my speakers are correctly spread out for "sound definition", they'll either let me take it upstairs eventually, or go crazy.

atm i am flying flight sim most of the time, which they have no objection to.

fuck off phaliure, fabian...

i dont hack the college network, i dont even know how, I couldnt even begin to try... And i know that windows XP is dodgy programmes, but when the System admins use it on their own machines and encourage the use of it around college, what have i done wrong by using it?

Also, I have not done anything dodgy before, last time they accused me of hacking the college network the confiscated my computer and it took them 3 weeks until the even found out that they didnt know how to use linux. when they found someone who did, that guy didnt find anything...

surprising, isnt it, how I manage to hide stuff so well that 5 professional IT technicians cant find it, oh yeah, maybe i hid it in that place called "IT NEVER BLOODY EXISTED land"

yeah, that must be it..

yeah people hate linux, "oh look he has linux he must be a hackz0r," its got a bloody good code base, and fucks around a lot less than windows, it doesnt mean you go around spying on other peoples work.

someone has some pent up agro because they miss thier computer :(
I see you don't deny that you irritate the ITS staff,
they have something against people who have a clue about computers,
as a result, me and fabian get along great with them :D
