What MMORPG?

Post by mid_gen »

In an effort to get away from over-reacting children flaming each other, here's a thread to get back on the whole 'gaming' theme...

Neocron looks nice, might give the trial a go, but SWG is lurking on the horizon...

I love Neverwinter it's my favourite RPG game at the moment.
I can't wait for Star Wars Galaxies to come out, if it lives up to the hype my brain is creating then I will play that game like it was my religion, I will become a Jedi, moohoohoo.

if I'm, right to say it's POSSIBLE for an MMORPG to be created from modules in NWN, shouldn't we add "NWN module" to the list?
that would be cool, I hope someone makes a module like that.

Does anyone actully play these persistent games a lot :?: I have read a bit but have not dived in. Anyone care to comment on the attraction of MMORPGs...

Well, I'd say

Code: Select all

<geek> that the main attraction is the same as playing a SP RPG (ie building up a character, new weapons etc etc), and being able to show it off and play as part of a community </geek>
Anarchy Online had potential, but the developers dragged their heels in implementing all the guild features.

I've downloaded the offline Neocron tutorial. I wasn't too impressed with the beta I tried ages ago, but it looks to have come a long way, so if the tutorial bites my biscuit I may take the plunge and start playing online.

Less than a tenner a month for Anarchy was very reasonable imo, although MMRPGs aren't for the faint hearted or casual gamer tho cause of the ridiculous amounts of time you have to spend to get anywhere in the game. You have to put in a good hour or more every night, and they do tend to become scarily addictive.

The main problem is that you progress faster in groups, but all the friends you make at first (and the ones you'll want to work with in the game) all tend to put in at least 16 hours a day so it isn't long until they're far far better than you and don't want you hanging around.

Just been playing Neocron offline demo, it's come along leaps and bounds since I played the beta. (apart from crashing my PC on exit....but I'm not sure I've got the latest version of the demo). I shall be giving it a go next week when it goes live, and will report back :)

11materiamagica is a text-based, (yeah yeah whatever), online rpg, and it is VERY SCARILY ADDICTIVE!
you need to complete like 5000quests to become a maxxed out archon (dont worry this just means your the highest level you can be) then you would think you would get bored, but no no no. then you can make ANOTHER character, and do it ALL again.
and yes there are many people that put in 16hours a day,
good thing i have school to keep me out of it!

i try not to play too much and keep to just one character. if anyone is at all interested in playing a text based game go to www.materiamagica.com
although it is, scarily addictive, and you need some decent 3d games, cos you start to crave peoples head blowing off. rather than just....
