He didn't actually get that PhD, he just uses the title to make himself look good (or more probably evil
). Ergo he is just evil, no genius, so a crappy bog-standard hedgehog could foil his evil plans.
So im afraid you'll find that Mario does indeed own Sonic.

I did vote for sonic, tho not because he has more class than Mario.
Although in the poll sonic does own mario, mario owns sonic in the class department by far.
And thus shall I make my stand.
