Domain controller

Post by LemonSHARK »

Does anyone know if Windows 2000 Professional can act as a domain controller? or would I have to use Windows 2000 Server?

Windows 2000 Professional cannot be a domain controller. You would need Windows 2000 Server/Advanced Server

D'oh. I was hoping there could be some sort of 3rd party domain thing that I could run.

Does anyone have a win 2k server cd I could copy and I'll find myself a key, or know of a place that sells them second hand (already tried ebay).

If you feel like getting beardy about it, the Samba project can run as a PDC on a 2K domain... Does require running some form of unix based thingy though. And it's a pig to set up...

Have fun ;)

I've always wondered what samba was.

Is it possible to get some form of linux VNC? I don't really want to have to find a monitor and keyboard once it's installed.

If you are asking that question then you really, really don't want to be touching Linux...

I was hoping you weren't going to say that.

Does linux support kvm switches? I would have thought it would, because they don't need drivers. Better to check beforehand though.

Don't even try running linux. If I see a single linux question on these forums from you from now on it will be deleted. Seriously.

Of course it is. You ever actually visited VNC's site?

It's the operating system that would've been running on PCs were it not for the fact that Garry Kildalls wife told the IBM execs to sod off.

We'd certainly not have MS in their dominant position now had she said yes.
